Exactly. I'm sick and tired of the argument "Well, if the folks who ride your trains and buses make less than you guys (transit workers) you should make the same.

Do they say the same thing about their doctors or other professionally people who serve them?

It takes a long time to train an train operator for example. And he is always learnign new things. He is responsible for a lot of lives and the safety of a lot of folks are in his hands. Every passenger is a potential law suit for NYCT. He has to know about the mechanics of a train, third rail, track, signals, so much other stuff. He does not work 9-5 with weekends and holidays off.

Bus operators have the responsibility of a large, half a million dollar vehicle and a load of passengers as well and have to deal with traffic, traffic and traffic. Surly customers too.

And what do I hear time after time? Nobody is forcing you to take the job? I guess we're slaves.

This is why I usually take a hiatus when the talk of contract comes up around here. As long as YOU make money, f** the transit worker.
