What do people who make $30-40 an hour, who ride to work for free, want to tell to people who earn minimum wage who pay $4.50 a day about getting a raise? The difference in salary is due to the different complexities and responsibilities with the jobs. Pushing a broom, asking "Do you want fries with that?" or answering phones ( all honest work in their own right) can NOT compare to the professionalism commensurate with operating a bus in passenger service or rolling a train over the road. When the MTA cries 'empty pockets' at each and every contract, only to show a surplus even before the ink is dry, leads MANY union brothers and sisters (and apparently TWU Presidents, too) to NOT believe that MTA has no money stashed away for a much better offer that 0's across the board. When YOUR kid is on MY bus, I am sure you want a highly qualified (CDL and NY State 19A laws) PROFESSIONAL Operator that is compensated fairly for the enormous endeavor that is a simple trip on a crosstown bus. Remember: you get what you pay for .......... Unless you are talking about management in the MTA, but that's for another post..... STILL LOL@BREE NOT BEING HERE |
