In the background is Amtrak's Texas Eagle, loading passengers on its way west to Ft. Worth and from there to LA. As much as I loved traveling last year on the Coast Starlight,I would not take the Eagle...an overnight layover in San Antonio,TX,ranging from 7 to 9.5 hours,is made in order to accommodate train coupling operations.I was looking at the schedule and wondering about that. Why does it need that long of a layover? What is it coupling? It makes it extremely slow compared to the other cross country routes. |
