It was always much quieter than the regular els. My grandmother lived half-a-block away on 45th Street. You could barely notice the sound during the day and in the middle of the night there was a nice clickety-clack sound. Now with welded rail it is even quieter. Another benefit is that on rainy days you can walk under the el and not get wet. |
