I dont believe the Fulton subway was the waste these guys believe it to be..the EL structure was by THAT DAYS STANDARD "rickety" for the most part..and would need rebuilding to carry the newer steel cars of the day.

The Cranberry tunnel would have been built in any case,whether it was connected to the Nassau st subway upper level stub tracks under Broad st..or the BMT's version of the 8th avenue subway...

If the Fulton st subway was completed..it would have had serious usage..Linden Blvd alone would have fed it from Long Island,South Jamaica,St.Albans,Cambria Heights,Springfield Gardens,Rosedale and so on..
