I have a strong suspicion that eventually the SIR will become either a part of or direct subsidiary of NYCT rather than a direct subsidiary of MTA since it no longer has to be FRA compliant. Although some SI residents argue that SIR more resembles commuter RRs like LIRR or M-N than the subway, it is unique in that it operates entirely within the city of NY making it more rapid transit than commuter RR. |
