"You are a minority at this point. Horse racing has been dying a slow death for years."

I don't know about that. Surely it's dying compared to the 60's & 70's when attendance wise racing was the most popular spectator sport. I remember Aqueduct & Belmont getting 40,000 on a typical Saturday especially to see Forego or Kelso.
However racing is far from dead. Just go to Saratoga in August, or Keeneland in the fall. And try to find a seat at the three triple crown races or the Breeder's Cup. The Kentucky Derby draws over 100,000 every year. And even the track side at Aqueduct was crowded this past weekend. And after the last race there was a big line of traffic leaving.
Now harness racing (Yonkers, etc) is completely dead and has been for years, but that is a completely different sport, as different from thoroughbred racing as soccer is from hockey!!
