I said that when I was a new driver, I was confused about the Verrazano Bridge sign. I also said that was 40 years ago. I later said I was confused for several years. The reason I was confused is that some times when you see a sign for a Bridge, it could be five miles away and other times, it means that you are actually about to enter the Bridge approach as is the case with the Brooklyn Bridge signs. Of course if you see the ramp it isn't a problem. But at Tillary and Adams where the road is flat and you can't see the bridge it would be easy for someone not familiar with the roadway to enter the bridge by mistake. I think they may have since added signs saying Bridge Only.A similar thing happened to me in Washington DC. There was a sign saying Arlington with a left turn arrow. That was the direction I needed to go since I was looking for the Washington Monument so I turned left and found myself on the 14th Street Bridge on my way to Arlington. Now don't you think that sign was confusing? Shouldn't it have said "Arlington Only" or "Bridge Only" or "14th Street Bridge Only"? |
