Chicago is one of my favorite transit systems even though I don't get out there as much as I'd like. My first visit there was in 1956 at age 11 and although I never rode North Shore, I did make it to Wheaton on C A & E. On the way there, I rode the Garfield Pk el when it was on the surface of VanBuren St and looked down on the Congress Expwy with the rails being laid but at the time, I wasn't aware of what I was actually looking at. I also rode the Howard/Jackson Pk el all the way from Stony Island and although I didn't know what I was looking at I did see a North Shore train near Armitage. |
