Rather than continuing to speculate, I decided to actually look it up. Columbia requires SAT or ACT scores from all transfer applicants. Assuming the policy was already in place when Obama applied, they would have seen the scores. |

The elder Bush went to YALE and then his son did. If you know how the admission process works at most Ivy League colleges, if your parents are an alumni to the school your applying , you would get what is called LEGACY ADMISSION. It is sort of a preferential treatment because these schools rely on donations from alumni. |
