The big question is for you to understand what you're impliedly asking for: just as under McCarthyism (which I remember first hand) you are a member of a group that CURRENTLY has the power of economic life and death over people in the public eye. Under McC you couldn't say anything approving about the Soviet Union without risking your job in certain industries. At least then it took weeks or months to be destroyed. Now it seems it can be done in a single news cycle. Eventually McCarthy overreached when he took on the Army. Remember a paraphrase of an old adage: be careful who you savage on the way up in power; you'all see the same people on the way down. |

Girls marrying men or boys at 15 has been a common practice in much of the world and in the U.S. and is still possible in some states. Saying that men should marry boys is a political statement that brings up new social and political issues. But what should happen to you if you were to say that? What WOULD happen to you? Legally, nothing. You would be criticized in many quarters and asked to explain yourself. If you were running for political office, you might have destroyed yourself. Should you be denied your livelihood? If you did no more than express your opinion, even forcefully, I would say no. And you're trying to make it a contractual issue? So what you're really upholding is the Law of Contracts? Or are you simply claiming the right to demand the firing of people who offend you? |

The First Amendment, by the way, prohibits the GOVERNMENT from unlawfully restricting your speech. What you agree to on your own, in a contract, is another thing entirely. I don't care about gay marriage. But I have no problem with those who claim it's wrong (they have every right to feel that way), nor do I care what people do in their bedrooms or with whom. For the record, I have been to two gay weddings in the last year. Who cares? |
