The Boycott Against Obama's Bear-Hugging Buddy Is Failing Miserably

When Scott Van Nuzer got caught up in the moment during President Obama's Sunday visit to his pizza shop in Fort Pierce, Florida, little did he know how quickly the Yelp army would mobilize. On Saturday, Big Apple Pizza had just two reviews, but at the time of this posting, that number had grown to 1,059. Of course, Obama being a Democrat and this being an election year, not all of them are five stars.

"I will not eat from traitor's hands and I'll never take food from man who DIDN'T BUILD his business," reads a one-star review from a Yelper in Las Vegas. "Went there during my summer vacation. It was nasty. Not surprised the owner is an Obama hack!!" reads another, also with one star. There are few more, too. Apparently, some anti-Obama trolls were trying to mount an assault against Big Apple Pizza on Yelp, launching their one-star reviews like Sidewinder missiles into hull of Van Nuzer's reputation. Too bad they were outnumbered. Like, really outnumbered.

The would be Yelp war between Obama lovers and detractors on Yelp seems to have turned into more of a massacre. For every one-star review bashing Big Apple Pizza on Yelp, there were about 60 five-star reviews singing its praises. (We counted.) In reality, the ratio is a little bit different since about 130 reviews were taken down -- most of them one-star reviews -- for violating Yelp's terms of service. It's still a pretty stark split, though, you have to admit. Not only does Van Nuzer's pizza place have the best rating in Fort Pierce. He's got the highest rated restaurant in the entire state of Florida. (Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa appears to be a distant second.)

This is an all-too-familiar tale. A troll taunts the Internet with a silly ruse, but the Internet is much bigger and more powerful than said troll, so said ruse backfires. Then again, maybe we haven't seen the last of the anti-Big Apple Pizza army. The restaurant's Facebook page seems to be relatively unscathed.

Guess you don't care to admit the anger and hate spewed by Lardmouth, O'Reilly and many many other RW "media".

Not that you're all that fact based in your discussion here. You never offer any links for the RW talking points you say here. Or any proof that what the women at the DNC said was "angry". I saw most of them, and didn't see any emotion beyond excitement.

Just look at the murdered embassy staff and ambassador to see what real RW "talk" does. If that's not the result of anger, nothing is. Why aren't you angry about that? Why aren't you calling THEM out? They have blood on their hands, and anyone that doesn't speak out against what they did, the international equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded theater, has it as well.

There never was an organized boycott of this guy. Boycotts are tools of the left and most conservatives never supported boycotting him.

Either way, his word that he's not lost business because of this incident is in no way verifiable, from what's printed in this article.

When you bait a bear the person who does the baiting is fully to blame because bears don't have advanced brains.

When you bait violent humans most of the blame rests with the humans who engage in the violence. But the ones who knowingly do the baiting have a piece of the responsibility.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman got it right when referring to the creator of the film.

"He's a complete loose cannon, and an unspeakable idiot."

No. There is absolutely no responsibility on the part of a filmmaker to consider what some insane nutjobs do in response to it. All of the blame for violence here belongs on the shoulders of those who committed it.

Calling Mohammed a goat fucking pedophile is no justification for responding with violence, no matter how offensive some may consider that statement. Same goes for insulting Jesus, Moses, etc.

No. There is absolutely no responsibility on the part of a filmmaker to consider what some insane nutjobs do in response to it. All of the blame for violence here belongs on the shoulders of those who committed it.

The filmmaker should consider it because these people are subhumans who could lash out at human beings who cross paths with them.

By calling them subhumans you INCREASE the responsibility of the film maker. The less human they are the more responsibility the film maker has for their violence.

There is no justification for getting violent when insulted.

It is however (in my opinion, and in the opinion of the Israeli Foreign Ministry) highly reprehensible to deliberately insult people who get inflamed easily.

You seem to disagree. You seem to be happy that this film was made. I hope I am misunderstanding. I would be very happy to hear that you agree with the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

These are NOT equivalent situations by any means. The RWNBs made a stupid movie. Sinc eit was a stupid movie it gained no traction WRT visibility. Sothey sought out a translator and put up an Arabic trailer. Then the shitstorm began.


Decent men, on the other hand are supposed to treat a woman with respect regardless of dress. In that issue consent is *always* under her control.

That is where the difference is. This POS "film" which deserved its should have been hasty demise, was brought forward to the Islamic would, a place where few if any have a concept of free speech of religious satire (which is a very popular meme in that part of the world, so long as it is directed at the overzealous and NOT the tenets of faith itself as this POS "film" is) beyond their own, as there is none, specifically to antagonize, to bully, to shout "fire" in that crowded theater. They are responsible for the outcome.

They could have satirized the mullahs and get away with it. Some Christians were outraged at films like the "Last Redemption of Christ" for its content as well. You forget too soon.
