The Sulzberger's stock-in-trade is their beloved influence. They're going to see that decline even more now.At least when they go out of business, I won't have to watch their stupid commercials any more that say "I was stupid and unpopular and only got invited to neo-Nazi wiener roasts, then I subscribed to The Times and now I'm smart and popular and get invited to wine tastings attended by chic, beautiful and ultra-skinny women." |

If you load the URL, then go and WHACK the question mark AND everything to its right and then reload the page you will see a happy surprise. If you do a lot of commenting, be sure NOT to include the #comment..... in your questionwhack or your comment may not reach the queue. |

I heard of Manhattan Cable. I think it's one of the oldest in America, like Service Electric in Pennsylvania. You would think Manhattanites would not need cable because they're so close to the "sticks", but the tall buildings in NY make reception a problem like it is in the mountains of Pennsylvania. I'd kill to see you and bingbong on cable. |

Teleprompter was the first in NYC. Owned by the folks who made TV prompters. :)First cable system anywhere was somewhere in some valley burgh in Pennsylvania. Forget the name, but anyone who cares can google it. And cable was kinda worthless UNTIL they put up those towers down by Battery park. Once those went up, everybody's reception turned to shit. Particularly north and south of the city. But it screwed up east and west almost as severely. When Empire was the only tall building in town, reception was fairly good, no need for cable. Cable started in places where the residents were down in the valleys and the hills screwed up reception. Most of the original ones were built by TV repair and sales shops in order to make the TV's on display look good. Of course, without cable, once the customers brought them home, they were lucky to get 3 or 4 channels they could actually see. Yeah, we did the public call in comedy shows back in the early 80's. Wasn't much else to watch. Heh. |

That might be the one. It was in PA though, that much I remember. When I moved up to Zoo Paltz, "New Paltz Telecable" was owned by Russ Bogie who owned an RCA repair shop. Same story. Now it's TimeWeenie like most of the rest of the Hud5on Valle4 these days. Before TW got it though, it had been bought up by Alan Gerry who owned a larger system called "Cablevision Systems" down in Middletown. Concentration in the industry wasn't a pretty sight at all. :(At the time though, I worked for Bogie's competitor at another TV shop and when Bogie first lit up a brand new thing called "HBO" out of Florida by satellite, Bogie had been testing it before rolling it out. My boss and I rigged up a Zenith in the store Window that I had modified to decode the "sync suppression scrambling" that early HBO used with Magnavox decoder boxes and BOY was Bogie pissed! Heh. He cut up the drop wire from the pole to the store into little two inch pieces of coax. :) Yeah, early cable was a lot of fun. Today it sucks. And life goes on. :) |

Those on the right are of course much more moral. They only steal LARGE amounts and screw the children. I suppose by pointing to the left, you exonerate the right? It's how everyone gets taught to conduct themselves these days. "Greed is good."Sorry to say, guy ... we're a dying breed. As long as other crooks get away with it, then it's OK for everybody ELSE to do it too. Supply side was an excellent teacher, Ferenghi style. :( |
