Dharun Ravi sentenced to 30 days in jail

Probably about right, maybe slightly on the short side. He wasn't charged in the victim's death and therefore a long sentence would have been unreasonable.

That's reasonable. Would have liked to see him required to perform service, hopefully for the LGBT community or suicide prevention. He might walk away from it all with a better understanding of how actions like his can effect others.

But why was he then not deported back to India? That was one of the options that the judge could have imposed here. He has no remorse about his deeds and about the life of another HUMAN BEING. In the twitter he sent after he learns about the suicide, he says he would never commit suicide cause he LOVES MONEY.

I think the sentence is fair, he didn't push the guy off the bridge, the suicide was an independent action and can't be just associated with the results of the actions of Ravi. Let's move on.

???

Immigration law is federal. This is a state judge. It's not clear he won't be deported.

He kind of is: http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/breaking/Judge-Sentences-Rutgers-Webcam-Ravi-Clementi--152286185.html

He will be on probation for three years and must also complete 300 hours of community service, participate in an educational program on bias crimes and cyberbullying and pay $10,000 to the probation program. That money will go towards a community-based program to prevent bias crimes and cyberbullying.

Why? the guy gets off on 30-days in jail for tormenting and abusing the rights of another person to the point where the victim commits suicide. Plus he has NO REMORSE whatsoever and never said to the family of the victim that he was sorry.

Clementi became UNSTABLE after the deed was committed by Ravi not before.

I don't know if it's too much or too little. It depends on what other people have gotten for similar offenses, but absent that information it seems a little harsh.

Ravi did not cause Clementi's suicide in that a normal person would not have committed suicide following such an action, and Ravi had no way of knowing that Clementi had a greater propensity to suicide such that his actions would lead to it.

Why would a normal person not become suicidal after a sexual secret was revealed to the world, during an invasion of privacy.

Ravi has to know that invading someone's privacy could reveal something private about the individual. 30 days jail is not enough time.
