Gallup: More say Obama same-sex marriage flip-flop more likely to make them NOT vote for him

This is probably an unexpected gift, because I doubt anyone working for the Romney campaign is smart enough to have so skillfully engineered this:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/154628/Six-Say-Obama-Sex-Marriage-View-Won-Sway-Vote.aspx

This confirms what I've been saying about the issue: those that approve of same sex marriage do not do so passionately, those that disapprove of it do so PASSIONATELY. Technically, I support it, but it ain't motivating me to do anything. It's #97 on my list of important issues.

SIX???? (this isn't worth the bandwidth, Chris)

Considering the number of voters the President stands to gain by expressing his opinion on this issue that's hardly a tradeoff.

The majority of gay people are likely going to vote for the President. There's little need for a poll to prove that. One thing about gay people is they're generally smart, and know what's in their own best interest. These are not closed minded people we're discussing here.

I guess that stereotyping gay people is ok when it's a positive stereotype? I'm sure that there are plenty of stupid gay people but as I've said in the past, the more smart/successful you are the easier it is to live openly so that gays are seen as more successful as a group than they might really be. There is that DINKs thing many have going though.

It's not about tradition for me. If I thought that gay marriage would be a benefit, I would support it.

I almost wish that my morality were more flexible or that my sense of right and wrong had more gray, because I do feel like I am going to be on the wrong side of history. Or at the very least the losing side.

I don't see it as a benefit because I think that it will eventually put an end to all government acknowledgement and incentives for marriage because if defining marriage really is a civil rights issue gay marriage will not be the final re-definition.

How did you arrive at that bizarre conclusion? The ONLY effect that gay marriage will EVER have on marriage or society is that gay and lesbian couples will get married.

Marriage IS a civil-rights issue. See Loving v. Virginia.

Interesting that you use a case about interracial marriage to justify gay marriage and in the same paragraph insist that gay marriage will be the final change to marriage. Things change JayZee and if marriage is a civil rights issue, it's not only gays that deserve civil rights.

What I mean is that it will open up a new can of worms as marriage will continue to be redefined until the government gets out of the business entirely.

Anyway, it's nothing personal and for the gay people that I know that will be able to marry, I will be happy for them.

My point is that I don't care if there's a benefit. So long as there is not a severe detriment. I disagree that there would be. I think we would actually be better off destroying the so-called "sanctity" of marriage and once again considering it a contract between two or possibly more people sharing a household.

I think I am the only liberal atheist who is "morally" opposed to shacking up without marriage.
