Dinosaur Boeing does it, even on the new Dreamliners. Airbus doesn't, making life easier for pilots, except...Air France Flight 447: 'Damn it, we’re going to crash’ |

I've seen things that 3 people have looked at, and later we all wonder how we could have let that go through.Commercial airliners have lots of backup systems nowadays to tell pilots "Hey, the system thinks you're making a mistake." But with incredibly bad luck somethimes all the backup systems aren't enough. |

I think the pitot/static system was sending erroneous readings to the instruments, which possibly conflicted with what the flight management system--the plane's computer--was telling the flight crew. If the pitot tubes were "iced over", it could have sent the FMS bad data, or caused the ADI to generate false readings...the flight crew got caught in a bad place. |

Crews throughout the flight cycle make comparisons in reading.Another factor is the aural aircraft warning system. In flight deck training sessions, one of the lessons taught is to silence the aural waring to gather your wits. |
