Yeah, Cubans are well aware of the kind of crap people have in other countries. And in any case, most Cubans have no interaction with and would continue to have no interaction with foreign tourists. The only thing that ending the embargo and opening up Cuba to tourism would do is vitiate the Castros' claims that America is evil and wants to keep Cuba down. |

Why stop at Latin America? If Canadian PM Harper, British PM Cameron, French PM Sarkozy, Mexican President Calderon, and maybe even Putin/Medeyev got involved and told the two sides to make up*, it would be worth something. The fact that the mutual allies of the US and Cuba sat on their hands for 5 decades before getting hard on the matter saddens me.The hijacking of US foreign policy by about .001% of the population in regards to US/Cuba relations is one of the key reasons why I am against this country. A summit or forced dialogue is LONG overdue. |

Oddly enough the only people against the Cuba embargo appear to be the people who know the least about it.Why does the American embargo of Cuba mean anything? Cuba can't trade with the other 193 countries on earth? With those direct flights from Harpers Canada, UK's Cameron(several times daily I thought), Or Calederon's Mexico? What are you trying to say, Mexico, Canada, and the UK are such failures there's nothing they can trade Cuba with, it has to be America? What are you planning on trading with Cuba? A country where the government didn't approve giving out...not people buying, giving out...Microwaves until very recently. Or allowing people to have cell phones. But guess what, they couldn't afford cell phones. AMERICANS had to buy it for them, even with the embargo. You can't buy much on 20 dollars a month. Which is 20x more than Obama's bro in Kenya gets. So try again when you have a point. |

If the embargo is lifted, Cuban communism doesn't make it through the decade of the 2010s.It isn't entirely clear that the embargo is cutting off Cuba from anything. The only country sanctioning Cuba is the U.S. People from all over the rest of the world can (and do) vacation there, and even invest money in property there (though usually through a well-connected local). Besides many in the US, the other Caribbean countries are the ones that don't want the US to normalize relations with Cuba. Looking at the miles and miles of beachfront in Cuba, one can only imagine what would happen to tourism to places like Jamaica. |

Well the embargo was supposed to be to get rid of him. If they use it as an excuse to demonize the USA so they can stay in power, I'm not sure about that, or it's effectiveness anyway. But I do love our politicians reasons for lifting the embargo. It doesn't seem to be trade, as there's nothing to trade or money. It's about the outrageous taxes and fees on the airline tickets! |
