Posted by Nabinut on Wed Apr 11 16:35:47 2012 Note: This is not characteristic of all Jewish people...just an example of some of the ones in my neighborhood. While walking back from the local grocery store with five heavy shopping bags, a guy dressed in a grey sweatsuit and running shoes with a hoodie on his head across the street starts eyeing me.(His appearance in any other area would be several suspicious for 4 o'clock in the afternoon.) As I'm walking almost parallel to him, he continues to eye me like I'm going to run across 6 lanes of rush hour traffic with five heavy bags to rob him or worse. So I decided to play with him. I stopped at the bus stop near my apartment and looked like I was about to cross the street so he stopped and pretended to stretch his legs then I let him get ahead of me. I continued walking as he kept looking until I turned to go to my apartment. It's amazing that after five years of living in this heavily mixed but Jewish-leaning area of Baltimore that I still get the occassional glares and reactions like the ones this guy gave me. |

Most of the cars are mini-vans actually. I think it's othrodox Jews that live in this area. Very heavy of procreation. The women wear head scarfs and dark dresses. I put this story on OTchat specifically from two members (Terrapin Station and WMATAGMOAGH) to see how they would react.As I mentioned in the story, I took to playing up his bigotry for my own amusement...which goes to show how much I don't care. In regards to the statement you're replying to...I support an diverse community and love living here but being African-American, 6'2 and over 200 some-odd pounds, I can understand their "fear" so I try to at show that I'm not as scary as I look. |
