The fact is, war with Iran at this point would destroy our economy. If war in Iran does break out, I don't think it would matter if obama won or lost the election. In fact, he'd likely hope to lose. The consequences of a military strike on Iran would lead to Iran retaliating by striking back at not only Israel but also the Arab OPEC states. The world economy, but more so Russia, China and India would immediately collapse under the weight of a global oil crisis. Too bad we opted not to:Drill in Montana and Alaska Drill off the east and west coast of the USA Continue drilling by US companies in the Gulf and sending those rigs to other parts of the world. Build the Keystone Pipeline. So much for a proactive energy policy |

The Bakken oil shale (which is mostly in ND but overlaps into Montana) is being drilled actively.Alaska srilling will proceed slowly. We as taxpayers own that land. You want careful drilling, don't you? Gulf drilling is resuming. Obama didn't direct BP to be careless, and both the Bush and Obama administrations bear responsibility for careless oversight. The Keystone Pipeline will be built, just not through the Nebraska Sand Hills. Even Nebraska's repblican governor doesn't want it drilled there. meanwhile, the oil is transported by rail, which is more expensive but feasible. US natural gas drilling has expanded so much under the Obama administration that gas prices are through the cellar. All the LNG import terminals are applying for permits to become export terminals. So what are you complaining about? |

We are drilling in Montana (or the leases are under process). There are leases under process for off shore Alaska- one major issue is spill cleanup given the Arctic temperatures that MUST be resolved prior to final approval. I see no issue with drilling off the Florida coast....something that wasn't going to happen prior to the Obama administration for obvious reasons.Keystone wouldn't be necessary if there was refining capacity closer to the Canadian border (however we all know this oil is NOT intended for American consumption, that it's headed to China....or else why wouldn't they just refine close to the Canadian border and truck it out? They need to have it close to the coast so they can ship it away.) and/or its environmental issues get resolved. Buried pipe sans sarcophagus isn't a plan, as any leak would be difficult to remediate, leading to catastrophe. The lack of environmental consideration should doom the project as is, and until it's rethought and done properly it should not be rushed into. The oil companies are making more than enough profit and can well afford to do it right. |

There are significant environmental issues yet to be resolved with it, the most severe were brought forward by the republican governor of Nebraska. There isn't all that much of a need to rush this, better to do it right since that oil is headed to China anyway. Otherwise they'd just build refineries along the border and truck product out for domestic consumption. No need to process on the coast if it's not headed away,yunno. |

You can't do civil engineering rework in the three months the repupublican house allowed for civil engineers to rework the route, leaving Obama no choice but to not do it given the alloted time.If your favorite grandstanders in DC were serious about this at all, they would have allowed the time to reroute and give a realistic deadline. They didn't even bother. |
