Ah well ... rightie news abounds, "fair and balanced" time! :)

You'd think that republicans would be talking up their solution for high gas prices, a shitty economy and why Obama is a commie. Nope ...

Santorum Good for Chastity Belt Sales?

With discussion of birth control in the Republican presidential campaign, Vanity Fair investigates chastity belt sales.

"The underlying tenor of this debate begs a natural question: what about chastity belts? Are there pockets of America where they're still in use? If so, where you can buy them? (Outside of a Medieval Times gift shop, that is.) A quick, eye-opening search revealed that Amazon offers a couple dozen different models in its Health & Personal Care store, while eBay offers more than 200."

Republicans want nothing more than to turn-back-the-clock deal and have us all think were in the 1950s where women are in the kitchen and the man is at work and sex is the unspoken word in the public eye. God forbid if we spoke about sex education, they have that blasted away with prayer in public schools again and make doublely sure that this is a CHRISTIAN NATION and nothing else but that...all other not welcome......and strong borders in the South to keep out the undesirables...which means no diversity in America.

They are silent about bringing back the 1950's individual and corporate income tax rates.

I grew up in the 1950s in Brooklyn and I have no nostalgia for it (though I would like to be able to ride a trolley on Church Avenue again). And I was a "beneficiary" of the social changes of the '60s.

The '50s weren't quite so strait-laced as people think they remember, but we can look at what we've lost since that era. Economically, we've mostly lost the economic model that allowed one parent to work full-time and the other to manage the household and be there for the children. In this liberated time it could be either parent but the problem is it has become a near impossibility for ANY couple.

And we've lost the social strictures that has people thinking about the consequences of having children without marriage or even commitment. The NYT recently reported that a MAJORITY of children born to women under 30 are born to single women. This is a supreme irony in a society with open access to means pre- and post- to avoid childbirth.

Yes, women had less social freedom in the '50s but so did men. The new social order allows men to impregnate women and view taking care of the result as optional. And the women let them. Liberation indeed.

Sanitorium wants to. To be precise,he wants to ignoreGriswold and Eisenstadtand throw the issue to the states. If you don't think places like Oklahoma, Texas, the "Bible belt" and even Virginia won't jump on the opportunity I'd question what planet you're on. It is only the force of Federal law that insures reproductive freedom, even as we are 40+ years past those decisions.

The country would become a patchwork of female, family friendly states and the Chastity Belt. Then guess who's gonna come hat in hand to Washington for welfare money?

Yes, the republicans ARE looking towards banning contraceptives for many.

So you are saying that this is a fabrication?

And, in October, he insisted that contraception is “not O.K. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”

PS. Remember that most birth control pills are used by MARRIED women.
