Common sense will tell you that that spark of curiosity can occur anywhere and not necessarily as the by product of an organized religion. There are probably as many major inventions that were developed by the non-zealot yet nominal Christian than the zealous ones. You know just like now, if you ask me I'm Catholic; but do I go to church? nope. Those people invented and discovered too. So did secular inventors.

your pal,
Fred

the ships or flying the flag at Pearl Harbor; the very thing you said was offensive. i'm not offended by either but i'd think having Japanese ships at Pearl Harbor is more offensive than just flying the flag.

lol!! and for the 20th time, it's not being flown by Americans, it's being flown in an biannual event, participated by many countries, and ON a japanese vessel! perfectly fine.

I don't have any definitive proof it's just a hunch. Maybe some who’s more familiar with how these things work can give an answer.

i already called your bluff on that one.

So now it has to be from debris? That’s not what you said before.

NO they aren't! it's a JAPANESE vessel participating in the biannual, multinational RIMPAC. The Rim of the Pacific Exercise, is the world's largest international maritime exercise. It is hosted and administered by the United States Navy, but the United States Marine Corps and United States Coast Guard are also involved, as well as Hawaii National Guard forces under the leadership of the Governor of Hawaii. Also invited are allied military forces from the Pacific Rim nations.
We shouldn't let Japan participate with their vessels just because we were at war with them 70 years ago, and have been at peace with them for 60? that's NOT "flying a flag over pearl harbor", they are on japanese ships.

NOT the same thing. Japan did not represent "all Asians", OTOH Al-Quaida perpetrated the attacks in the name of its religion and has support among many in the hierarchy of that religion. Al-Quaida is not a single nation but it is supported by the leadership of several nations, particularly the religious leadership.

Do you really expect the friends and families of those who were killed in the terrorist attacks to accept the symbol of those who perpetrated the attacks? I think it is expecting too much of them.

So let's say that an Orthodox terrorist group killed 3000 in Turkey in the name of "Liberating Constantinople." Do you believe that then Turkey would be right in banning Christian symbols near the site of said attack, even if they were only there to commemorate Christians who were among the dead?

Has anyone talked about honoring fundamentalist Muslims? Do you object to Christian symbols near Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta?

Would he have undertaken that mission IF the Soviet Union was not in the process of becoming our new "enemy"? The real motive behind the reconstruction of Germany and Japan after WWII was to create buffers against Soviet expansion

Hit the Times ... look for "Turkey shocked as military resigns" or some variant of that. Erdogun is on his own now ...

Why do you consider the former more offensive than the latter?

Unlike 9/11, which was sui generis, the Ft. Hood attack is like any number of shooting sprees. You don't really pay attention to the motivation when it's anything else, but when it's a Muslim, HOLY SHIT THAT'S SCARY. Maybe we should be at war with young loners.

That's not going to turn out good. But republicans would rather fight over flags. :-\

Once I found examples you came up with an excuse as to why they don’t count.

you posted ONE example, both the submarine and the warship were participating in the same event, a multinational event, which every country can fly their flags on. That is NOT flying flags "above Pearl Harbor" (for the 27th time).

And the Muslims who died in 9/11 should be given the same respect as Jews and Christians

And they are. The t-bar is no different than any of the other exhibits there.
In the United Nations, there was a permanent exhibit of the atom bomb that was dropped in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. This exhibit included dishes, personal items, and the like, and it also included a statue of St Agnus that was that had fallen over when the bomb went off, and the whole back was blackened, but the front was still intact, as it fell in the dirt. That was an exhibit there, and it did NOT promote "Christianity" at the exhibit any more than this cross does. It's part of the history.

THE PERMANENT DISARMAMENT COLLECTION AT THE UNITED NATIONS

The statue of Saint Agnes stands in the centre of the permanent collection at the United Nations. The damaged statue was found in the ruins of a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Nagasaki, Japan in 1945. The Cathedral was completely destroyed when the atomic bomb exploded half a kilometre away. The charring and mottling on the back of the statue are the result of the intense heat and radiation.

And since no other religious symbols are used in construction you’ve created a criteria that can only be met by cross how convenient.

I gave many examples of items that may have been found. You attacked that post and said "so now you are saying they should be taken from the rubble". Well yeah, that's where the t-bar comes from, it's not like they are shipping in some irrelevant religious item from somewhere to profess anything.
