You know, if they objected to a black bookstore opening up, I'd say "yeah, buncha racists" but the idea of opposing a new nightclub is really NIMBY.

Bullshit. I gave you a music genre that would upset locals. You ignore because I am right.

There are always problems with Manhattan residents and rowdy bars. They even come out with an annual list of noisy bars.

When WWE owner Vince McMahon owned the Cape Cod Arena he brought in rock acts like Blondie and he had to go to court because a group of residents and hotel owners were making life hard. Neighbors vs. music venues and clubs is nothing new. I'm not sure why you think it is.

I don't see how conservatives would be any more welcoming, however. The residents were there first, not the club.

That stretch is only light commercial, and was never intended to have anything as busy as a club there. If I lived there, I would oppose it too...even if the police precinct is just a stone's throw away (the 78th is at 6th and Bergen).

Also, think about the traffic that it will generate in a residential neighborhood already hurting for parking spaces.

How many rock stations are in the NYC area? On Long Island we have NONE. We have 104.3 (classic), 102.3 (classic), and 103.9 (classic). We get 99.1 which is a semi Classic and 90's Rock station from Connecticut, but that doesn't count, as it's from Connecticut, and doesn't make it into the City.

NYC has 104.3 (classic), 101.9 which is somewhat a rock station I guess, but plays a lot of classic stuff, and 92.3 plays ustin Timerlake type of stuff.

Thank God for Satelite Radio, as I gave up on FM radio once 92.3 KRock went down, it was the last Rock station in NYC. 101.9 "tried" to fill the void.

So again. How many Rock stations are in NYC? Compare that to other genres of music in NYC stations.

I can't believe that you think that clubs only reflect music played on the radio. I'm talking guys and girls who practice in a garage and show up on friday night at a club to play and you're throwing corporate radio stats out there. Dude these are young people who spread their stuff over facebook and myspace pages and most likely own their own production companies. This is not old school AOR stuff. And they play in clubs.

You really think that because there's limited radio coverage that rock music is dead? Not even close and that's not even bringing up college radio stations.

Long Island has more than NYC. But it's all Classic Rock. Our "rockiest" station On Long Island is 99.1, and we just get that because it flows across the Sound. All the commercials are about what's going on on Friday Night in "Hartford".
We DO have WBAB 102.3, which is acceptable if I still listened to FM regularly, but it's all Classic Rock, and so is 103.9 WRCN. We don't even have a station that plays 90's Music anymore.

In terms of pure quality I agree but I think everyone is willing to compromise for universal availability. Kind of like earlier digital photography, where we all knew that film was a cleaner image but it wasn't that much cleaner enough to forego the wonderful PC darkroom we suddenly found ourselves with.

Fred
