The upside to Atheism is what it doesn't offer. It doesn't offer a definitive answer with an extremely high probability of being entirely false.

Agreed.

A quick glance into the research will easily show that the Nativity story lacks factual support (and is not even original...) And more to the point, it is not up to me to prove a claim false -- that's not how it works. It is up to those that make a claim to prove that it is true. Until you show me the Boogie Man in your closet there is no reason for me believe that he's there.

However that doesn't seem to matter to most religious folk. It's largely a matter of tradition (plus a good deal of wishful thinking).

The morality of basing what is right on the ideals of treating your fellow man well, as you would like to be treated and respecting his/her right to freedom, security and happiness and not on some ancient dogma based on some supposed cosmic being with less-than-benevolent intentions is a pretty strong moral foundation, I would say.

But before even moving on to the moral argument, atheism and the decrement of religious dogma is a factual argument, which is far more to the point.
