Al Gore on Geothermal Energy |
|
Posted by Train Dude on Sat Nov 21 00:31:33 2009 So this is the same Al Gore who knows as much about GeoThermal Energy as he knows about global warming. |

It can be used where it's economically feasible, like Iceland. Like wind and water, it alone is not capable of providing a constant supply of electricity. |

That doesn't mean it shouldn't provide for the energy it can provide. It, wind, hydro, solar and tidal should be used to provide power to the extent that they can and everything else should be provide by the one power source that's not based on energy derived from another body in this solar system (hint: there's a power plant of this type in Springfield). |

I agree that these sources should be exploited to supplement traditional power sources, like coal and nuclear, wherever it's economically advantageous. I don't support them replacing the traditional sources. |

No one in their right mind can support them replacing traditional sources without some major investment in new technology first (and some new stuff being invented) or a huge cutback in our quality of life, and in some cases, the population that can even be supported. One thing that anti-industrial nutballs don't realize is that if you reversed the industrial revolution, BILLIONS of people would die. The world is only as populous as it is because modern technology supports it. |

Production consists of tapping the sap of the rubber tree. (And those plants need to breathe in CO2 in order to make rubber.) |

Errrr, Will, I don't want to call your education into question but did you happen to hear Al Gore say that the center of the earth is several million degrees??? How can you trust a man's judgement about anything when he speaks with such mis-informed statements. There is nothing wrong with Geothermal!!! I just don't want to hear about it from Bozo, Clarabel or any other clown including Al Gore.By the way, best scientific guess is that the earth's core is 7,000 degrees C. |

He's always had problems with hyperbole, nothing new there. If that's the only issue you can find with his discussion then I'd say he was soundly successful. Fine he was hazy on the detail, but do you find any fault with his advocacy of geothermal power? It sure as hell beats US Senators trying to claim the Earth is just 6000 years old. |

I have no problem with his advocacy of geothermal energy - unless you worry about the issues raised in the film, "Crack In The World". My problem is this moron advocating and people believing his global wasming "Sky is Falling" rhetoric. The video-clip just shows how shakey his science is. |

Posted by WillD on Sat Nov 21 23:50:06 2009, in response to Re: Al Gore on Geothermal Energy, posted by Train Dude on Sat Nov 21 22:51:39 2009. My problem is this moron advocating and people believing his global wasming "Sky is Falling" rhetoric. How is that any different from the people who advocate their belief that Islam is going to take over the world? Global Warming beliefs are centered on drawing conclusions based on correlations between physical data sets. We have measurements of carbon dioxide, sea level, temperature, and so on and thus can forecast off into the future. A different conclusion can of course be reached, but it will be reached through a varying interpretation of scientifically sound data. OTOH the theories centered on Islamofacism are based entirely on subjective anectodal evidence of some percieved slight to their host culture. At least the real hardcore AGW fanatics have some scientific backing for their paranoia, it beats the hell out of the paranoia and xenophobia exhibited by those who espouse fears of Islamofascism. The video-clip just shows how shakey his science is. The video clip only shows that he is prone to use hyperbole in his interview. This is something we knew in the 1990s and which SNL used to great comic effect in the 2000 campaign. Anyone who has watched anything he's put out without a critical eye toward his tendency to overstate matters is doing themselves a disservice. If it happens that they were not aware of his tendency toward hyperbole then I hardly see how that's Al Gore's fault. Besides, hyperbole seems to have been a theme of the 2000 election. How many tons of WMDs and manufacturing facilities was Iraq supposed to have had again? A few thousand? |

Islam seems to control a lot more countries than it did 10 years ago. But we don't care about people after they've been ethnically cleansed, I forgot. It's going to be great when they finish soon.
