His blackness helped in Florida. Minorities and liberals liked that and voted for him.

For all the relocated baby-boomers in Dade, Lee, and Pinellas Counties, Obama's candidacy was the realization of a dream started back in the 60's.

So you are saying that those same people would have voted for McCain over Hillary? C'mon now?

For Latinos in Florida, it was about sticking together as a minority, and breaking the monopoly white males have had on the White House.

yeah and FL Latinos have always stuck together and voted Republican until 2008.

Florida has been close for some time. No surprise Obama flipped the state, probably for good.

Hillary is another affirmative action group that would appeal to relocated northerners and minorities.

You gotta go down there to see how northern the state is. I'm waiting for them to start telling people to leave the beach at 6p like they do in Rockaway.

The people you mention vote Democrat anyway. Were Bill Clinton and John Kerry part of an affirmative action group? Obama won in FL because he flipped enough people that had voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. The groups you mentioned never voted for Bush.
In Florida, Obama recaptured the Bill Clinton voters of 1996 and enough Republican-leaning people of all races that were disenchanted with the GOP for a myriad of reasons. I think that McCain could have won FL had he chosen Tom Ridge instead of Palin as his running mate.

Cap and Trade, the pay stipulations in regards to taking TARP money, TARP itself, The Keynesian "Renew America" project, etc.

And the best part is none of this will prevent what happened from happening again. It was Clinton and the Republican congress in 99 that removed that act that created firewalls between investment banks and regular banks after the 29' fiasco. That, along with the WTO whoredom to China, is what sent the economy on the trajectory it is on now. Bush simply followed along.

Oh stop it, it's time for the current administration to take some responsibility for what they are doing. The "blaming of the former administration" for everything can only go so far. How about taking responsibility for HOW they are handling the plate they have? If they want praise for the good things that happen (and don't want to give responsibility for inheriting the good things), then it's also time to stop saying all the bad things are not their fault and deflecting that responsibility.
Obama may not be blamed for the crash but he sure as hell can be blamed on how it's handled.

Obama distanced himself from Wright without apology. Some Republican congressman and the current head of the RNC apologized for merely criticizing Rush Limbaugh. There goes that argument.

Wright doesn't have a radio show that reaches millions. Rush does. In fact nobody hears much about Wright.

I've not seen Wright speaking at political events. Seen Rush as a speaker at CPAC.

Like I told TD, the comparison to Wright is simply a spiteful tit for tat response, not grounded in any reality but intended to sway the argument because supposedly Rev. Wright is this big scary thing that counters anything liberals have to say. Doesn't work.

None of those reflect 'socialism', a charge that is thrown around a lot without being much understood. Many of them reflect, I think, ineffective and poor attempts to right the economy that stand a fair chance of being more wasteful than inaction, and probably not making much of a difference anyway.

We need to get away from the one word 'socialism' rejoinder to policies and get down to what we actually like or don't like about them and their consequences. There is plenty that I am not a fan of in TARP, TARP 2.0, and in the energy bill, and a lot of the stimulus bill too, but I do better to address that point by point than just yell 'socialism!'

The Keynesian "Renew America" project

I didn't find much wrong with that aspect of President Obama's program in principle. The problem was that the actual stimulus bill that passed Congress was not very much of a "Renew America" bill; a lot of looked like political payback. The importance of stimulus hitting at the right time (soon after, or better yet, just before, the cycle has hit the downward phase, otherwise you have to push up the overall amount) and in the right dollar range (it's liable to mostly fail if the amount is low, making overstimulation better to err on the side of).

Paying for (long lived capital) assets on a long time scale on borrowed money is something familiar to all of us.

"The unemployment was likely going up anyway."

Would you care to prove that with any substantiated data?

I agree about bad mis-calculations on the part of obama and the liberal congress. Look, you guys wanted to have the ball tossed to you. You caught the pass - don't blame the conservatives if your guy fumbled. Turnover coming

You know, you liberal morons are exasperating in your idiotic hypocracy. obama listens to Wright for 20 years, never challanges his racist, anti-american and anti-semitic views but obama doesn't share his thoughts but if conservatives listen to Rush Limbaugh, they are being brainwashed. Are you a clown or what?
