The President Shows His Compassion (and maybe something else?)

The Whitehouse announced today that president barack obama took time from his busy schedule to pen a personal note of condolence to the Jackson family. At the same time, it appears that president obama did not send a similar letter to the family of Farrah Faucett. Do you think it had something to do with ............well maybe he just wasn't a fan of Charlies Angels".

According to dictionary.com, the definition of perpetrator is: "1. to commit: to perpetrate a crime."

The way some people make it seem, you'd think racism was a crime.

It's a crime in the EU. However, the way the law over there is worded, it has high potential to increase racism.

For some like myself, the Motown stars were less iconic than Farrah Fawcett. It's in the eye of the beholder. I think that Ed McMahon was more iconic than either Michael Jackson or Farrah Fawcett. I also don't think that the cause of death should be an issue, especially if it turns out that Farrah Fawcett's anal cancer was due to anal sex with many partners or if Michael Jackson's death was due to abuse of pain killers. They should be remembered for their body of work and not how or why they fell from grace.

Unfortunately, in this world of 24/7 entertainment and the need for ratings, their falls will be exploited to their fullest extents. People need salacious details to liven up their humdrum existences. Hence, shows like "Access Hollywood" and "Inside Edition" and the legion of gossip websites.

To those who need scandal and controversy to thrive, Michael Jackson will keep them going strong for years. Farrah less so.

Is the disproportianate singling out by the media of MJ's death versus those of Carradine, McMahon, Farrah and Mays possibly due to the fact that maybe (just maybe) MJ was just a tad bigger then the other three and that's it's a bigger popular interest story or is because the media hates white people.

I guess Subchatters hate white people too considering the amount of posts about MJ versus those for the other three.

Are you comparing the response of a railfan website to that of the president of this country? Please tell me you are not so simplistic! The fact is that Michael Jackson may well be more relavent to most subchatters - more so than Farrah Fawcett and certainly more so than Ed McMahon. SO what does that have to do with my point? The president, given the weight of his office, needs to be more universal in his decision making. And you know damn well that had it been President Bush that sent a letter of concolence to the McMahon family only, racism would be the least of the charges.

Not if Bush were a genuine fan of McMahon. Obama most likely listened and danced to MJ's stuff while a young man in the 70's and 80's and had fond memories of the man and that era and was genuinly saddened by his death.
Would you have preferred fake sadness on his part with respect to Farrah or McMahon?

Michael Jackson was also more relevant to the rest of the world, where not only was he enormously popular, he also didn't carry most of the negative labels that he has in the U.S. The same people around the world who adored Michael Jackson probably have never heard of Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, or David Carradine.

Poor choice in singling out one?

I have no interest in any of those celebrities, and I am convinced Michael Jackson was seriously mentally ill and probably a criminal as well. But even I am aware that Jackson was far more famous and popular than any of the others.

The promoters of his upcoming shows have to return something like $100 million in prepurchased tickets. Would Farrah Fawcett be able to generate even $1 million in prepurchased tickets for an upcoming appearance?

I am not saying Michael's death isn't similar to the death of Elvis. Actually, I totally agree. I am laughing at the lengths to which you are trying to prove what "Obama meant" by all this. People come running out of the woodwork like I have never seen to defend Obama of anything he does. THAT is what is so funny.

Hardly! He's not even shown any real leadership for the country that elected him.
