You have to allow yourself more time than ever to get around by public transportation. It seems to be falling apart.Local service on the Queens Corridor is a nightmare. Same for the 6 train. Both regularly experience long gaps in service on an hourly basis. Try riding the subways at night. Ever wait for an E train to Queens at 12:00 midnight at 53/Lex? You'll stand there for a very long time. Then when you get on, you won't even get a seat. Buses? Bus service is the worst it's ever been. Metrocard helped speed up the decline with overcrowding. 30 minute waits during rush hour for the Q23 and Q54 buses are very common. You don't know when the damn bus is coming. |

Many bus routes shut down completely.To get from point A to point B in Manhattan, the subways are the best way to go. But service in the outer boroughs, particularly bus service during the off hours, has room for improvement. And I am fortunate to live in an area that is served by the Q13, 16, 28 and QM2/QM2A. And the LIRR is less than 2 miles from my house. For all it's blemishes, public transportation in New York City is pretty damned good. |
