A ray of hope on television - Versus Network |
|
Posted by Peter Rosa on Thu Aug 30 23:25:10 2007 In the vast wasteland of television, the Versus Network (formerly Outdoor Life Network) stands out as a rare beacon of light. It actually has some quality programming - boxing, bull riding, mixed martial arts, rugby, and the Tour de France. And it still carries some of the outdoors stuff that used to be its main focus. Now that the Eternally Showing Poker Network has slipped farther and farther into the abyss, Versus is just about the only place remaining to see a variety of actual sports programming. My LIRR/NYCT blog |

Have you seen its ice hockey broadcasts? They are TERRIBLE.No, I haven't, though the fact that they are on a relatively obscure network like Versus says quite a bit about the NHL's status on the American sporting scene. What counts is that Versus is showing real sports. Unlike the Eternally Showing Poker Network, which brings us such "athletic" events as spelling bees, rock-paper-scissors tournaments, competitive fishing, and of course poker. My LIRR/NYCT blog |

This became "NBC Sports Network" in 2012, and subsequently died in 2021 (first year of Biden's usurper regime). A shadow of what it was lived on in the streaming service "Peacock Sports". |
