25 Melville Park Road, Melville NY |
|
|
Posted by Peter Rosa on Wed Sep 30 16:47:48 2026 Yesterday I paid a short visit to this property as part of my ongoing comparison of NYC vs. suburban fear of Muslims. It’s a 100,000 square foot office building from 1986, in the Route 110 office/industrial cluster. Tenants are the typical suburban mix of financial businesses, accountants, lawyers, and a variety of other businesses. As far as I could tell the largest tenant is a language training school. As for the lobby, there are no turnstiles and no guards. Guess no one is afraid of Islam. Not like the city, which is quaking in terror even though it’s been 25 years. |

Relative, not absolute. The main reason for turnstiles isn't to keep terrorists out, it's to keep randos out. Major office buildings had them before 9/11. I'm sure you'll point out that this was after WTC '93 and OKC, but it's not like either of those had anything to do with pedestrian access to the building's interior. Meanwhile, the WTC closed its parking garage to the general public in 1993, but other office buildings didn't. |

There are turnstyles in Kansas and Alabama too. Some people don't like some companies. Some ex-workers have grudges also. Guess what IRS buildings have? More than turnstyles. Why? |

Somehow I doubt skells have ever been prone to wandering into office buildings. Salesmen maybe, but tenants will have receptionists, and one skill they're all good at is getting rid of salesmen. |

A single-tenant building is free to control access as it sees fit. For example, the building where I work (not an office building) has entry gates, but it's the only occupant. I'm talking about multitenant buildings. |

They all have a "security guard" for some reason. Wanna know a secret? It's always a black person. Some that get off on yelling at white people, some that are friendly. |

They won't necessarily have receptionists, and even if they do, their office plan might have parts of it accessible without going past the receptionist, particularly if they use multiple floors. A large enough employer won't be able to use the receptionist as a barrier since the receptionist won't be able to recognize everyone.Having a lobby barrier avoids the need for tenants and their employees to carry around key cards all the time. If an office building is largely composed of a single employer, the security desk is the reception desk. Finally, I don't see why corporations shouldn't fear terrorism. Except that the terrorism that they fear isn't Islamic, unless you think Luigi Mangione has taken the shahadah. |

"...even though it’s been 25 years."First of all, you conveniently neglect to mention the 1993 WTC attack which, had the Muslims had their way, would have been every bit as deadly as the 9/11 attack. Second, its been a LOT longer than 25 years. Muslim hate has been going on for over 1300 years. Their holy book calls for the murder of Jews and Christians and they have religious leaders calling for the fulfillment of that order to this day. |
