Iran presses FIFA to ban Pride flags at Seattle match

New demand issued: Iran’s football federation wants FIFA to ban all but officially recognized national flags at its World Cup matches, which would exclude Pride flags.

Iran is scheduled to play Egypt in a Group G match in Seattle on June 26 during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This game has been designated locally as a 'Pride Match,' highlighting LGBTQ+ inclusion and visibility.

The request to ban non-national flags is one of ten conditions set by the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran for its participation in the World Cup.

I haven't read or heard anything about this but it's almost certainly because they don't want to see the old Persian flag from when the Shah was in power. That's been popular at protests in LA and I've heard that it was banned at the most recent world cups.
