What is the alternative? Going back to private contractors? Do you think they would show up to work if they didn't get paid?

No, it wasn't. Although that failure that led to the creation of the TSA was because of policy and not because airport security needed to be nationalized.

Private airport security wouldn't be any faster given the heightened requirements.

Many people have claimed that the only post-9/11 security improvement that was really critical was that only someone in the cockpit can unlock the cockpit door.

They probably aren't completely correct but they may have a pretty good point.

Before the TSA a large portion of the workforce doing the screening at many airports, like LAX, were undocumented. It was very noticeable because almost none of those workers qualified for TSA positions.

I agree with ICE's mission, but like most I don't agree with how they are currently carrying out their mission. They need more nuance and compassion. The problem seems to be that there aren't as many criminal immigrants as Trump believes/believed so their number targets aren't achievable without deporting good people.

The rallying cry needs to be not "Defund ICE" but rather "Reform ICE" (so that they heed the Fourth Amendment).

It's tricky. On one hand the average democratic wants to defund ICE and will find reforming ICE to be unacceptable. Maybe the best position will be to say that ICE is bad but be somewhat ambivalent about totally defunding them. But that risks having a Bernie Sanders or similar swooping in to fracture the party.

It could be abolished too. We were fine with the INS and it was equally controversial.

The problem, as I see it, is that the other federal policing agencies have powers that involve enforcing criminal laws. ICE is not one of them. It's weird to have a police agency that can detain people for things that are almost entirely not crimes. And then ICE gets to wear fatigues and act like a gendarmerie.

Yes, I know that there are law enforcement agencies that deal with things that are not crimes, like the NYC Sheriff, but when was the last time you saw a whole company of them wearing masks and fatigues?

The real problem is that there are states and localities that actively interfere with federal immigration law. This needs to be corrected, and NOW. And yes, abuela should be deported.

As both major parties expand to attract people that haven't traditionally voted in large numbers, they do appear to be getting dumber. And those are often the loudest and ultimately the most influential factions. The crowd that Lucha calls community college intellectuals are winning the elections out here.

We'll see what happens and maybe I'm overestimating by what I see online, but in California most millennials and Gen Z are very left and really do want to defund the police and abolish ICE. Their age groups will be running the parties very soon.

I meant people in their 20's and 30's, but yeah I can see that millennials may be more liberal than high schoolers and young adults.

I live in a mostly white area and I only realized how right some of my neighbors are when Charlie Kirk died and I found out how their kids were into him.

But this is just a bubble for greater LA which is majority Hispanic. The people these kids like won't get elected or even make the ballot for most offices.

I'm open to being wrong, but I'm thinking locally. In LA we have powerful local politicians that have called for ICE to be dismantled or defunded. The fact that hasn't translated into wider elections may mean that I'm wrong or it may mean that we'll know more by this fall.

I've noticed that some millennials are more liberal than the younger Gen Zs, but it also depends on where they live. But thw discrepancy is true for every generation. I've also noticed, in general, the Gen Xers are more conservative than the Baby Boomers (which are more liberal than the "Silent Generation") before them, so perhaps it alternates every generation

I.C.E. is anout an 83 year old American being thrown to the subway tracks and murdered. I.C.E. is about an 18 year old young woman being shot in the head. I.C.E. is about Laken Riley and scores of other victims because democrats want 20 million illegal criminal immigrants that biden and the democrats need to remain in this country and most Americans do not. I.C.E. is about the rule of law. I.C.E. is not about Donald J. Trump.
