Kathy Courtney Hochul signs bus lane fines protection bill

I'm surprised no one posted about this. Yes, it belongs on OT because it's political.

Months ago The Chief had a story about this problem. NYCT supervisors would arrive on the scene, usually a disabled bus or some incident, and the camera would take a photo of the supervisors vehicle in front of the bus.

Then a ticket would be sent to NYCT and whoever was operating the supervision vehicle would be responsible for the ticket. They would have to fight it and would win but it's an example of how things work.

Article also said that NYCT subcontracts tow trucks when necessary and the same thing would happen. The tow truck company and driver would have to go through the process of fighting a ticket just for towing a NYCT bus.

So that would mean that an NYPD patrol car or an FDNY fire truck in a bus stop or bus lane would also get a ticket.

marked PD vehicles don't have license plates. the camera would pick up on the car number but it wouldn't go anywhere.

I don't think FD trucks have plates either, only the smaller vehicles.

That this ever became an issue that required legislation to resolve just shows the abject stupidity if a democrat bureaucracy. Back in the day, an officially produced plackard in the window would suffice.

Wrong, #37. It belongs in Buschat. Anything related to buses is automatically political so it can't be separated from that.

Some NYCT bus supervisors said they paid the fine to avoid problems with their licenses and transit.

This issue refers to the cameras installed on buses to fine automobiles in bus lanes and bus stops.

It's automatic. And the department that issues the tickets is a revenue department run by NYC. You're right about bureaucracy. That's why this story is so interesting and frustrating.

No. Welcome to NYCT.

Dept. of Subways Personnel got jammed up too. Let's say there was a broken rail underground. A truck would come with heavy tools and park by a bus stop at a station. Yes, they got tickets too andvtransitvexpected the truck/van driver to pay up.

Your hatred knows no bounds, #37. Nor does your pollution of OTChat with bus topics.

Nobody who goes to college comes out as a real Catholic. Bill Hochul is no Catholic either, in spite of being raised as one. Are you going to call Keith Ellison a Catholic too merely because he was raised as one?

When I was a rookie, sometimes I would be asked to accompany a District Detective if a second one couldn't go. Classic late 80s unmarked NYC Police vehicle with the cherry light on the dash and the "official business" POLICE placard in the dash. He would park on Lexington or right off corner by subway entrances or in front of businesses/office buildings were the C/V worked. About 70% of the time we would get back to the unmarked with a ticket or a sloppopatimus brownie in the act of writing. Some, with a straight face would say that they "didn't know" it was a police vehicle. Most would say that they are told to write everyone, City/State/Government vehicles included except marked vehicles of an agency. The salty old timer Detectives, who back then mostly came on in the 60s, would just toss it in the garbage!

city-sanctioned vehicle harassment has always been a thing, despite what some posters here seem to think.

I remember an incident in the 2000s where warrants went to go grab someone, only to find that their unmarked was towed away while they were upstairs getting the mutt.

when the cameras first came out, the job floated the idea of making cops pay any tickets generated by them. I think that was the last time the unions actually had any balls, and that got squashed immediately.

I guess it's due to the issues with England?

But here in the US, it's interesting to see how Irish-Catholic women have emerged as the leaders of Leftism. Kathy Hochul. Margaret Sanger. Kathy Griffin. Maureen Dowd. Joan Walsh. And if you look at election results, the states with the most Irish-Catholics in New England support Democrats as much as California.
