More bad aviation news for New York |

Posted by Peter Rosa on Thu Dec 18 12:48:42 2025 In a way it’s even more shocking than Delta’s cancellation of its service from JFK to Brussels after 35 years. Jet Blue is kiboshing its JFK-Amsterdam flights and moving them to Boston. While to be sure the JFK service was seasonal - note that Boston will be year-round - the fact that Jet Blue is “supposedly” a New York airline makes the move to Boston really heartbreaking. |

And their Airtrain to NJT connection is faster, funny enough, plus has the Airtrain/NJT/PATH option.JMHO, but the EWR Airtrain should have been built as PATH, including the airport circulator. But the Port Authority would not do such a thing, oh no. Funny enough, since the JFK Airtrain was built with 4' 8½" railroad tracks and accommodates 10'-wide cars, the subway could possibly take it over if the politicians ever felt like it, lol. |

While I still consider the emphasis on Delta's JFK-BRU cancelation to be overblown for reasons I've already stated (quick review: Delta has a limited number of gates/planes/slots at JFK and is just using them to get to other, usually farther, places than Brussels), I actually agree that it's a bit of a blow to New York that Jet Blue finds Boston to be more profitable for European flights than JFK.Jet Blue has an odd array of code share agreements, and KLM isn't one of them. So I'm guessing nobody taking Jet Blue to Amsterdam is going to transfer there for onward travel. That means that the pressure is all on the US side to feed the plane with passengers. While Jet Blue may be synonymous with New York in some ways, Delta still has the largest market share of JFK. On the other hand, Jet Blue has the largest market share at Logan. So Logan is probably a more natural place for Jet Blue to stage the flights to Europe since so many of its domestic flights are landing there to feed the transatlantic ones. But as I see it. . .this is just like American working out of Philadelphia. It does because it has to. These airlines want to be in New York but Delta already won New York, so they are just fishing for the second-best places. |

I've flown into and/or out of JFK more than yearly on average my whole life (and have lived in all different places around the NYC area). I've never used the Van Wyck (north of the Belt Pkwy) to get to/from any of those flights.OTOH I've used the Van Wyck quite a number of times to get to LGA. |
