Re: More bad aviation news for New York

Posted by New Flyer #857 on Sat Dec 20 07:13:08 2025, in response to More bad aviation news for New York, posted by Peter Rosa on Thu Dec 18 12:48:42 2025.

While I still consider the emphasis on Delta's JFK-BRU cancelation to be overblown for reasons I've already stated (quick review: Delta has a limited number of gates/planes/slots at JFK and is just using them to get to other, usually farther, places than Brussels), I actually agree that it's a bit of a blow to New York that Jet Blue finds Boston to be more profitable for European flights than JFK.

Jet Blue has an odd array of code share agreements, and KLM isn't one of them. So I'm guessing nobody taking Jet Blue to Amsterdam is going to transfer there for onward travel. That means that the pressure is all on the US side to feed the plane with passengers. While Jet Blue may be synonymous with New York in some ways, Delta still has the largest market share of JFK. On the other hand, Jet Blue has the largest market share at Logan. So Logan is probably a more natural place for Jet Blue to stage the flights to Europe since so many of its domestic flights are landing there to feed the transatlantic ones.

But as I see it. . .this is just like American working out of Philadelphia. It does because it has to. These airlines want to be in New York but Delta already won New York, so they are just fishing for the second-best places.
