A break from Charlie Kirk - what’s going on with Paramount/CBS? |

Here’s the story, as best as I can figure:Skydance, a pipsqueak media company (and rich boy’s plaything) buys Paramount, which in addition to the movie company also owns CBS. And orders 3,000 layoffs, natch. Not only is it bizarre that a tiny company no one’s ever heard of buys one of the country’s most famous movie companies and one of the country’s most famous TV networks, but the price for the deal was only $8 billion … by way of comparison, Capital One recently paid $35 billion for Discover Card. But wait! It’s not over yet. Fresh from gobbling up Paramount/CBS Skydance now wants to buy Warner Brothers Discovery. That would give it control of yet another huge movie company and one of the biggest cable TV networks. It’s like a goldfish devouring a whale. |

I’ve been reading a bit about the deal, it looks like Paramount had been struggling a bit adapting to streaming. Another factor is that the biggest shareholder Shari Redstone wanted to cash out. Even so, those things wouldn’t come close to explaining why the price was so low. |

I walked three laps, over five miles all told, on the Windham Path in Greene County early this morning with my sister. Cool and crisp air but the sky was blue and the sun warmed things up nicely. Afterwards, we enjoyed a couple Progressive Democrats, that is, fancy coffees, cappuccino for her, latte for me, instead of black sorry Black coffee at the "Higher Grounds" cafe by the the trailhead. Of course I do not know where the property you wrote of is located or if you even get up there but, assuming you are mobile and enjoying walking the outdoors, you might check the Windham Path out if you have not already. There were nice pockets of red and orange scattered on the Catskills and the Batavia Kill was running fast and clear. |

In my younger days I did every 3500 footer that had a trail to the top.The property is in Prattsville, almost but not quite on top of the Shandaken Tunnel. Still quite empty after all these years. The Hunter/Windham/Jewett build-up has hardly reached there. |
