Here’s the story, as best as I can figure:Skydance, a pipsqueak media company (and rich boy’s plaything) buys Paramount, which in addition to the movie company also owns CBS. And orders 3,000 layoffs, natch. Not only is it bizarre that a tiny company no one’s ever heard of buys one of the country’s most famous movie companies and one of the country’s most famous TV networks, but the price for the deal was only $8 billion … by way of comparison, Capital One recently paid $35 billion for Discover Card. But wait! It’s not over yet. Fresh from gobbling up Paramount/CBS Skydance now wants to buy Warner Brothers Discovery. That would give it control of yet another huge movie company and one of the biggest cable TV networks. It’s like a goldfish devouring a whale. |
