I agree.I voted for Mayor de Blasio (2x) and Governor Cuomo in general elections. I have no qualms holding them responsible for their failures. The President is President of the entire country. The NYC mayor and administration is supposed to know what's best for NYC, as the Burlington VT Mayor knows what's best for Burlington.The Trump admin could have issued guidelines such as "if you have positive cases and a population density > x, you should probably shelter in place now." Not because anyone would have listened, I suspect they would have been defiantly ignored and we'd be in the exact same position now either way. However he'd be able to say "I told you so" every time an NY politician gets ornery. |

Huh?The death rate at each age (percentage of people of that age who died in a given year) went up by about 15% for about a 2-year period starting in March 2020. You can claim that this is all an unbelievable coincidence and not related to covid, or you can accept that the extra deaths were due to the covid pandemic. |

Devil's advocate but it could be that the increased deaths were at least partially from the response to the pandemic and not the pandemic itself. For example, former MTV VJ Ananda Lewis recently died of breast cancer. Before she died she claimed that she missed the her cancer ramping up because she was unable to get her regular tests done for many months after the start of the pandemic. It could be that others with similar serious conditions went untreated or undiagnosed for similar reasons. |

Certainly failure to get treatment for other diseases because of the pandemic was a contributing factor.But the death rate went up right away in March 2020, stayed up, and then dropped back down again. The phenomenon you describe would, if widespread, result in a delayed increased death rate. |

Just that it's not a problem if they wish to do so.In my neighborhood, the only people who wear masks are old people and Asian-Americans. And only a minority of either of those groups. |
