Will Mandandi bring Whole Foods to Queens?

Posted by LuchAAA on Sat Jun 28 21:35:24 2025

Queens is the only county in America with more than 2 million residents that doesn't have a Whole Foods?

What would a government owned supermarket look like? Would it favor a category like vegan or low fat?

I predicted on subchat.com that this kind of candidate would emerge sooner than later.

lol no

a gov't supermarket will fall apart in a matter of years for no maintenance.
Future mayors and news panics will be over the state of the supermarket, and who funding is in danger and the place will shut down causing a genocide and famine.

It will be nearly impossible to qualify to be a member and go to said supermarket. Only scammers and folks in big SUV's will shop there.

NYC has no viable or likely candidates for mayor this time around. You may as well have Zo'.

If you remember, Michelle Obama coined the term "food desert ".

I don't think Dems have forgotten. They will do something with it to increase power.

Eric Adams expanded veganism to Meatless Monday in public schools.

America will become a country like Nilet.

I'm near a city that did something, they took a city bus and made it into a grocery store or something. I don't recall because it was a city thing that no one paid attention to or takes seriously.

The issue with Zo' is it's another rich silver spooned poc who thinks he found a problem and thinks he found a solution. And both are bullcrap. Grocery margins are so razor thin, that unless you have the power of wal-mart*, you're not going to make it. And NYC doesn't like wal-mart.

I choose Wal_mart, because like Amazon, it is not enough to sell at a profit. You can have a massive profit but you will still be cut. Wal-Mart wants to sell at a certain price and they can force companies to lower their costs very strongly. Otherwise, you won't be allowed on the shelves. Profitable or not.

Zo-tards don't understand that aspect of economics. Say what you will about wal-mart and amazon, but they have an effect on economics that you can't imagine.

Like this, #37. Nothing like Whole Foods.

In the richer, whiter neighborhoods there will be Whole Foods.
The city run markets will be like C Town, Bravo, and Met Foods.

Walmart won’t go into the city, mostly because of the unions, but it comes as close as literally possible, with the rear property line of its Valley Stream store being the Queens line.

Don't forget Food Universe! Lol.

Whole Foods started as upscale but it's very mainstream now. They do alot of advertising on 101.1 FM(80's) and news 1010 WINS. This is interesting because Queens and the Bronx don't have Whole Foods. They pay top radio rates for these ads and listeners have to drive far in many cases.

True. The Left hates meat and want to ban it.

Eventually every day will be Meatless Monday.

Walmart tried to enter the city when they were building the Gateway Center expansion in Brooklyn, but of course the local politicians were up in arms so they gave up. But they did do a pro-Walmart lobbying effort and I remember subscribing to their newsletter.

Whole Foods=capitalism, so no.

A government supermarket will run at a loss but will still somehow have a worse selection and surly, unhelpful employees.

Luckily this kind of shit is only popular among the downwardly mobile urban class and hasn’t infested the rest of the country yet. Maybe someday the Zoomers will actually grow up.

It's interesting in that I remember a day when a lot of big stores refused to enter Philadelphia and they ringed the city just on the border instead.
But now most of them are in the city, and I never did see what changed. Maybe they just gave up.

It's not fringe think.

My housing scenario prediction is a warning. But it's going to be policy at some point.

I went to that walmart to get a walmart ONN brand device that the wouldn't ship.
I was asked for more money from beggars than my daily ride to work on the subway. The parking lot looks like the south bronx. The people in the store cursing pushing, never again.

Half of the food universes and net foods are owned by Key Food any way. We still have a Key Food on Ave U and Gerritsen Ave in Brooklyn. Most others changed their name or went out of business
The Food Towns have all closed for the most part, two or three left in Brooklyn.

What you see in Valley Stream isn't representative of Walmart, it's representative of the area that it's in.

Walmart isn't my deal, but because I've traveled to lots of small towns around the US and needed to sometimes buy stuff, I've been in quite a few. What I've found is that Walmart reflects the area that it's in. Most of the ones in smaller cities and towns in middle America are very clean and friendly. The ones in large, urban areas are less clean and less friendly.

There’s a big renovation starting at Green Acres. The vacant Sears* will be demolished and replaced by a Shop Rite supermarket and other tenants including Sephora, Cheesecake Factory and Shake Shack.

While there’s definitely no shortage of plans nationwide for revitalizing declining malls, most of which are unsuccessful, one advantage Green Acres has is that the company which owns and runs it, Macerich, is one of the best in the business.

I forgot to explain the asterisk on Sears. After having thousands of stores not all that long ago there now are only EIGHT left.
