Never once was I "propositioned" by one.Only a small percentage of priests ever propositioned or abused children. (Though the hierarchy did cover up many of those cases.) So any individual kid probably didn't belong to a parish with an abusive priest. Also, the abusive priests deliberately preyed on kids with unstable home lives. Too risky to proposition a kid with a caring mother and father who would scream bloody murder if the kid came home with a story. |

In fact the priest in charge of the altar boy’s schedule when I was a kid was eventually accused of whatever they say he did at another parish. He took his own life in the late 90s. |

I never knew anyone who thought a priest behaved inappropriately, with one exception.A friend of my wife's mentioned, on discovering that a certain priest had been booted out of the priesthood, that she remembered that once when she was about 13 he had acted really weird when he was alone with her, and she just made sure not to be alone with him again after that. The priest who performed our marriage ceremony resigned from the priesthood under some kind of pressure (he's on the NY Archdiocese list), but I don't think it had anything to do with children. Probably consensual but inappropriate (for a priest) behavior with an adult. |

The priest who performed our marriage died of AIDS related complications. I sincerely doubt he caught it from unfiltered blood administered during a transfusion. |

My theory is that the priests who did that would try with the poor, Puerto Rican kids in my Parish. The Irish, Italian, German, Polish families were too well-known and entrenched in the Parish for them to dare make a move. |

Very true.The neighborhoods were very tight-knit working class communities. NYC did have a scandal in the 80's with Father Ritter at Covenant House. He was having sex with an adult, not under age, who stayed there even though it was for underage runaways. The guy sued and many joined the lawsuit saying they had sex with Ritter too. |
