An honest question: Why Gaza?

Posted by shiznit1987 on Mon Apr 22 18:49:40 2024

So seeing these protests that are going on, there is something that keeps gnawing at me about those protesting the Gaza war:

Many people bring up colonialism, settlements, and imperialism yet these same folks aren't enraged at Russia which is engaging in *actual* colonialism and expansion in Ukraine.

They keep screaming about genocide while routinely ignoring actual cases of genocide happening now like Arabs killing Africans in Darfur, The Rohyinga in Myanmar or what the CCP is doing to Uyghrs in Xinjiang.

We keep hearing about "innocent civilians" but innocent civilians keep being brutalized by cartels in places like Mexico and Ecuador.

Why is Gaza the only place that warrants this kind of attention? Why is everything else being ignored? I just want someone who is sympathetic to these protests to explain that to me.

You are skirting all around d the issue and I suspect that you know the answer. The single difference here is that it can be used as a catalyst for a resurgence of anti-Semitism.

That the palestinians were previously thrown out of jordan might lead one to conclude that the Palestinians are also trouble makers.

Well, one is media attention. Gaza and the West Bank get a lot of it. The second is that the US and other Western European countries are directly supporting the forces doing the bombardment. That irks a lot of young people.

Because they’re idiots.

In reality it’s because their Chinese propaganda app feeds them a lot of content that radicalizes them in this topic. Of course the Chinese propaganda isn’t going to condemn the actual genocide of Uyghurs.

It's not helping that there are plenty of Palestinians wailing how their families were killed, and that the Israelis are wrecking hospitals without a lot of evidence that it's justified.

Who the fuck says there's not a lot of evidence that it's justified? Of course it's justified when the terrorists are hiding in hospitals, storing missiles and other weapons in the hospitals, and Israel gives the Palestinians plenty of time to evacuate. As far as the Palestinians (which to me is everyone in the region including Jews) wailing about their familm members killed, IT'S ON HAMAS!!

A ridiculous statement. It's been well documented that hamas builds headquarters and storage facilities beneath hospitals to invite their destruction. It's no secret that hamas deliberately places civilians in harms way and revels in civilian casualties for the propaganda opportunities that such casualties represent.

On a personal note:
FUCK THE POOR PALESTINIANS FOR ELECTING AND SUPPORTING HAMAS.

But at the end of the day, the hospitals they attack are totalled, and nobody is either able or willing to step up to provide alternative medical services. That means reports of patients dying and a lot more ill will.

Hamas refers to US protesters as "useful idiots" and they are. They are wasting 10s of thousand of dollars protesting rather than attending classes. They are making the tent manufacturers wealthy and turning the vast majority of Americans deaf and blind to their cause. Fuck them and fuck the palestinians.

"They are making the tent manufacturers wealthy..."

What a coincidence that all those tents with similar colors showed up just about all at once. They're not cheap. This just gives fuel to the fire of speculation that there is significant outside agitators very much involved.

Lug those cumbersome tents on a bus or subway?? I don't think so.
If they bought them on line, they would have to be delivered to the campus to be set up so quickly. I can't see that either.
I believe they were dropped off by non student outside troublemakers.

Dude, you have to expect the students to have planned this ahead of time. Those tents don't look that big, and collapsed, they should be pretty easy to carry onto the subway. If they ordered online, it's a simple matter to request 2- or 3-day shipment. It would also be a simple matter for the student organizers to look up the best and cheapest tents and recommend them to the others.

I ask this constantly. I'm surprised to see someone else post my same question quite frankly.

I used the analogy to a Spanish person online once about Catalonia. It feel on such death ears that all they could do was explain that there's no such thing and it's actually just a province and that there's no there there. But Gaza is an issue to him.

I feel it's hidden in that mindset. THat they don't see anything wrong with anything anywhere, but for Gaza....a racist beachside resort with no womens rights. That's one we all need to cry over.

Simple and obvious. It’s because Jews are involved.

This world has nearly 8 billion people. There are maybe 15 million Jews, and that includes everyone from the Lubavitcher Rebbe to Scarlett Johanssen to Pink. That means there are 7.985 billion people who are not Jews. People are persecuted, shot, beat up and jailed around the globe, day in and day out and people shrug their shoulders. Yet, if a Jew chews his food too loudly or picks his nose the world explodes

I want to add that you didn’t really answer the question, since the media could focus on any number of places but always puts the burden on Israel.

My thinking is that it’s communism; the Soviet Union spread anti-Israel propaganda and the surviving leftist movements have internalized it. That and certain pseudo-Marxian philosophies that have historically infiltrated certain academic disciplines.
