I voted in the Republican primaries in 2012 and 2016, but I was never a Republican.

Wrong. A REAL Democrat supports the party platform. A REAL Democrat votes Democratic. A REAL Democrat pitches in, banging on doors, displaying lawn signs, making phone calls and texts.

They don't attempt to throw primaries. They don't espouse or support republican propaganda. They don't vote for republicans. You have stated here you do all three. You are no Democrat.

How can you "throw" a Primary? You vote for someone, that's it. You can be Democrat and vote for a Republican. You can be Republican and vote for a Democrat. You needn't be a slave to your party. And if you disagree with something, it doesn't mean you are obligated to support the party platform if you don't agree.

How can you "throw" a Primary?

It's easiest when everyone can vote in the primary of their choice.

Example: Republicans A and B are in a primary to decide who will oppose Democrat C.

A is a moderate Republican and B is a nut job. C would have a far easier time defeating B than A.

Democrats "throw" the primary by joining together en masse to vote for B in the Republican primary. B wins and C then defeats him in the general election.

I’ve already explained how I find this distasteful as there’s always a risk that the weak candidate wins anyway. I’m sure plenty of Democrats in 2016 thought Trump was the most beatable, but he was the worst of all the Republican candidates hands down.

That takes away the whole idea of political parties. If a party exists to promote candidates it should only be members of the party doing it. I feel the same way with inter league play in baseball. It takes away from the whole idea of a world series if everyone is playing each other all year.

Yes, I should have noted that my description was how it works in theory. But in practice you never know if it will work or not.

It's less risky to use for a legislative position (where the important thing is - whom will the winner vote for for majority leader) than for an executive position.

If, hypothetically, Democrats might have used it in Ohio to support Vance in the primary because he was the more extreme and possibly easier to beat, it wouldn't have been that stupid because losing to him isn't much worse than losing to his opponent would have been.

You have said. Here you vote for who you see as the weaker candidate in support of the republicans. That's as dishonest as a republican gets.

If you disagree, you leave the party. You don't maintain membership. That is NOT how political alliances are. There are options, use them.

No. What I said is I'll vote for a specific candidate in a primary so the one I don't like doesn't get my vote.

You don't have to agree with everything in a party platform, nor must you leave the party over a disagreement.

Yet, you should. It's not like you're against one minor issue, you're fully supporting the republican agenda outright.
