I expect it would make the Democratic primary electorate slightly more conservative. Somehow I don't think that Maya Wiley was the most favored candidate of resident aliens in 2021. I thnk Kathryn Garcia and Andrew Yang might have benefited most. |

It is clearly against the law for many types of elections, but allowing legal non citizens to vote in local elections can be legal if laws allow it. This is about changing local laws to allow it. Whether the City Council has the authority to pass such a law, as opposed to a Charter Amendment voted on by the electorate will certainly end up in court. |

It is not so simple, since for legal immigrants this has often become their home country, and it can take years to achieve citizenship, while they may be working and paying taxes including serving in the military, contributing more than many who happen to be born here. |
