Posted by TransitChuckG on Tue Mar 2 16:36:24 2021, in response to Re: California crash, posted by BILLBKLYN on Tue Mar 2 16:26:37 2021. California Highway Patrol Border Division Chief Omar Watson said there were 25 occupants in the Expedition during the crash and that 13 died, including the driver. The Ford Expedition can safely seat up to eight people. That's too many people jammed into that vehicle, no one can be properly restrained by seat belts. So this horrific accident happened. |

The weird thing is that reports now say that some of the occupants were Mexican citizens (not a surprise), aged 20 and higher. Why would American children have been stuffed into what sounds very much like a van smuggling Mexicans? |

The dawn timing of the accident makes it very likely that that is what these people were. |

For sure. What we don't know is whether this illegal van was transporting legal day laborers or people who had crossed the border without documentation. Various posters here assume the latter because that's just the way they are. Local news sources are more careful. |

Posted by Easy on Wed Mar 3 15:00:49 2021, in response to Re: California crash, posted by AlM on Wed Mar 3 12:46:53 2021. The news articles report there is a day laborer program under which Mexicans can enter the US with 1-day work visas. That doesn't sound right. There are visas for definite terms and for indefinite terms/seasonal, but I doubt that anyone could get a visa for a single day for an undefined duty. No reasonable person thinks that this was anything other than human smuggling. It would be reported already if they were here legally. |
