Anyone else annoyed by this all-too-common behavior?

Posted by Olog-hai on Mon Feb 22 12:45:30 2021

Or do any of you engage in it . . . ?

I used to love the scenario of turning towards an empty parking space to find a cart IN THE MIDDLE, not on the lines, but the friggin middle of the parking space.
It's obvious what type of people do those things.

My old favorite was when strong winds would blow the carts around the parking lot and hit parked cars.

It’s pretty much uncommon now that stores installed corrals dotted about their parking lots at least around here. Get with civilization, troll.

LOL, you're lying your copious keister off. Still happens even with corrals, and especially with corrals. Only place it's actually uncommon is where you have to insert a quarter to get a cart and you get the quarter back when you put the cart back.

American shopping carts must be the cheapest in the world. Where they use coins, like in Canada, those things are either 1 or even TWO dollars.

The US doesn't force coins of that denomination on the public, at least not yet. So gotta use what's most available.

No, I'm not. People around here use the corrals, since orphan carts usually end up dinging one's car, so it seems. Never seems to be someone else's. There's plenty of corrals handy.

If anything, I'm in a more civilized region. Public rudeness is rare.

Aldi had a workable approach to the issue. Each cart had a chain and lock. Put a quarter into the lock and the cart unlocked. Return the cart and you got your quarter back. Otherwise homeless guys around the store were happy to bring the cars back for the quarters.

I think you have to cut a break to single parent who may have one or more small children in tow. Leave the kids unattended in the car while returning the cart? NFW.

That said, there are definitely more carts around the parking lot that single parents with small children -- so there is plenty of "can't be bothered" behavior going on.

Even a single parent with small children could leave the cart so that it is right at the boundary of two spaces and doesn't destroy an entire space.

The picture in the original post is pretty extreme.

I certainly am not so lazy that I can't get out of my car and move a cart and overlook someone else's lack of courtesy. Certainly not enough to claim I live in a less civilized land as some low functioning person would suggest.

Back in the 80's they were $100 each so they must be much higher now. I remember a radio run we had in the 73rd Pct in Brownsville. We get a radio call for a larceny at Livonia & Rockaway. When we get there we're met by a white guy in a suit and tie. We even joked among ourselves that he's lucky he's not lying on the sidewalk bleeding.
Well he says he's a store defective for the Waldbaums company and points to a Key Food and says they have 15 Waldbaums shopping carts. He says they're worth $100 each or $1,500 and if they don't give them back he'll press charges for possession of stolen property. We go in and a very fat Mideastern owner says they're his and he got them with the store when he bought the store. We showed him the plaques on the baby seat saying "property of Waldbaums" and after a while arguing with him, he was even crying, he gave them back. The defective hired a bunch of local youths to wheel them back to Canarsie!!

Pathmark in East Meadow had that too years ago. Guys used to go around looking for loose carts to get quarters back. It's now Stew Leonards on that site and it doesn't do that. But they do have employees in the parking lot gathering carts.
