If someone is an asymptomatic or pre symptomatic spreader, getting them out of circulation as well as contact tracing loses value as time to find out gets too long. The center I use does a rapid and a regular at the same sitting, half hour for prelim, final is usually less than 2 days (longest I ever had was just under 3 right after Christmas, when testing went crazy). The city built a new lab just to do Covid tests, it runs around 30K a day which was a huge addition to capacity, private labs have been crazy busy, turn around has been an issue at times, but regular is considered more accurate than rapid. Even if you get rapid, back it up with regular whenever possible.

I want to get tested before I head east. I had surgery Dec 3 & was very suprised I wasn't tested then. I asked & was told it was not necessary since I had no symptoms. Thats the prevailing attitude in western Pa. NO symptoms? No test. Still have no symptoms so I have to do some hunting to find a walk in place. BTW glad you got good news about your test!

You need to relax your facial muscles to let it go in easier, which is contrary to what your initial instincts probably would be. But some testing places are not putting the swab so far up the nose anymore, since they have found that a shallower insertion gives just as accurate results, and is easier on the patients.

Their testing centers are clean and well run, they have numerous pop/up and mobile sites with another 40 mobile sites coming on line in the next few weeks. By having a waiting time page for the fixed sites you can choose a site with less of a wait, or look at the mobile sites to see if one might be near you as an alternative. You can also see what type of test are offered at the sites, some have rapid antigen, some are self test, many of the regular sites do POC-PCR as well as Regular PCR. and most mobile are regular PCR...Most of the regular sites are 7 days which helps.
