NYS Covid Officially In Trouble

Posted by Stephen Bauman on Fri Jan 8 10:27:29 2021

New York State's covid status has been downgraded to severe outbreak.

https://covidactnow.org/?s=1498452

The per capita new cases rate now stands at 75.7 per 100K. It was 7.1 per 100K back on Oct 15th.

https://covidactnow.org/us/new_york-ny?s=1498452

The populous counties that have the highest new case rates are: Suffolk at 118.0 per 100K; Nassau at 103.6 per 100K.

The NYC counties, with the exception of Staten Island, have much lower new case rates.

This increase coincides with the publication of Cuomo's book on his Covid crisis management on Oct 11th.

I better not leave the house!

A lot more people need to follow that example.

Current daily new cases on LI are now higher than they were during the peak last April. NYC is just a hair less.

Only 75.7 per 100k? Amateurs!

I haven't seen 30 per 100k in half a year.

We've been through this arithmetic before.

Here's what 75.7 per 100K means regarding your meeting somebody with infectious Covid.

The 75.7 per 100K is 0.0757%. A person is infectious for an average of 14 days. This means 14 x 0.0757% or 1.0598% are infectious at at this time.

It also means that 98.9402% are not.

If you meet 65 people, then 0.989402^65 or 50% of these people will not have infectious Covid.

Alternatively, it means that your probability will be 50% of coming in contact with somebody with infectious Covid.

No, it means on average 98.94% of those people won't have covid.

Alternatively, it means that your probability will be 50% of coming in contact with somebody with infectious Covid.

Now there's the correct way to say it.

And you folks are still pikers. I haven't seen 75 per 100k figures in my metro since before Halloween. We've been busting through 100 per 100k continuously.

The head of the Irish health services advise you to assume that everyone you see is infected. I'm not going to look up their numbers, because frankly it's good advice. Look at the people out there.

I'm not going to look up their numbers,

Ireland has been climbing since the middle of December. It's gone from about 6 per 100K to 100 per 100K in less than 1 month. It's only a bit higher than the UK and Israel.

You can lookup up Florada's figures on https://covidactnow.org/?s=1498452

The really bad news is that that the current situation could have been avoided.

Cuomo made the analogy of turning a water spigot on or off depending on the infection rate. He hesitated and continues to hesitates to turn that spigot down to control Covid.

Where is Florada?

I may be mistaken, but I don't think he lives in FlorIda anymore.

Still publishing covidpropagandanow.org? Funny how their board has a dearth of physicians but lots of technocrats and lawyers.

Interesting the the highest rates would be in Suffolk, Nassau, and Staten Island, skipping over Queens and Brooklyn.

*Taking a cue from the Democrat Playbook*
This means that Long Island and Staten Island should have the most testing and vaccines available, because the numbers don't lie and it's obvious that COVID affects "PONC" the worst!

It's been that way for quite a while. Nassau and Suffolk have had and continue to have less restrictive measures regarding indoor gatherings.

There also has been far less publicity regarding their high infection rates. This has lulled many into thinking they are safe from what they think are the Brooklyn and Queens hotspots.

Sorry, I don't have any finer data breakdowns within Nassau and Suffolk that might define individual areas.

Funny how their board has a dearth of physicians but lots of technocrats and lawyers.

The website publishes data on the number of cases and the populations of the various states and counties in the US. One does not need an MD to competently retrieve and disseminate this data.

I've cited covidpropagandanow.org because the website shows the per capita new cases values. I believe that is a very relevant measure of Covid's spread in a community. Other websites don't directly display this metric.
