Sean Bell was killed on 25 November when officers opened fire as he left a strip club where he had spent his stag night celebrations. Demonstrators counted to 50 to mark the number of shots fired by the officers, as they marched through the city. Trent Benefield, 23, who was injured in the shooting, led the crowd which also included politicians and clergy. 'Shopping for justice' Sean Bell was shot dead by police officers on 25 November  Sean Bell was shot dead by police officers on 25 November Mr Benefield led marchers from his wheelchair through New York's Manhattan district on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Organisers said they intended the march, dubbed "Shopping for Justice", to contrast the killing of 23-year-old Sean Bell with the Christmas holiday spending spree. "We're not coming to buy toys, we're not coming to buy trinkets - we're coming to shop for justice," said civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton, one of the event's organisers. "Our presence is a bigger statement than anything we could ever say with our mouths." Police fired 50 bullets at Mr Bell's car after it reportedly struck an unmarked police vehicle. Two of his friends - Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman - were hurt in the shooting, which officials say was due to police fears of an armed "altercation". No weapons were found on the three men or in their car. Where in my post did I say I didn`t prefer a peacefull demonstration?Why the BBC?Maybe because its a new york story& the rest of the country is just not interested.Rodney king,a good role model.Numerous arrests before the incident& numerous arrests after the incident.I still have vivid memories of that poor white truck driver being pulled out of his truck,viciously beaten,his head crushed with a cinderblock while Homeboy danced around his broken body with glee.What did he have to do with the incident,nothing.I am all for peacefull demonstrations,the last few have not been.You have animals screaming out to KILL THE PIGS,led by a congressman.DISGRACE.Its just a matter of time before a demonstration turns violent at the hands of the demonstrators&of course the cops will be to blame. |

How about the south Ward when school lets out?I remember a particularly brave and dedicated Newark officer who was recently killed. He was watching over high school kids leaving school. A car pulled up to the curb and a man got out making threats of violence, right in front of the officer and his partner! When the officer detained him and tried to question him, he pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the head. The other officer fired back and wounded the suspect, who was captured a couple of blocks away. This scumbag murdered a police officer in broad daylight, in front of hundreds of schoolkids. He threatened the whole community. I'm told this is not an unusual occurrence down there. |

At least I had the 'Opie and Anthony Homeless Shopping Spree' at Short Hill Mall to listen to.TD: you can count on me to bring titanium alloy files and hacksaw blades. Yup, I'm still alive and live.....set an alarm off in Warren County Courthouse. At least my new railroad boots won't set off an alarm....they are Timberland Titaniums...just the rest of me. |
