If you don’t know why “sexual preference” is offensive, then it’s not offensive to use it, you should get the benefit of the doubt. But Barrett knows better; she doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Portia's plea before the Judge is timeless, but also links the Shylock with his religion, which has carried forward in modern times as a slur:

The main one is "pound of flesh". That's the collateral Shylock insisted on to lend money to Antonio—a pound of Antonio's flesh. Antonio defaults.

The rest of the play goes on about Shylock demanding the actual pound of flesh in lieu of even taking money from others to cover Antonio's debt; the end result is a court demanding that Shylock surrender half his money to the state and half to Antonio; but instead of taking that, Antonio gives his half back to Shylock on the insistence that Shylock convert to Christianity.

I've never heard it used in terms of homosexuals anyhow; only in terms of bisexuals, where one sex (often the same sex) is preferred over the other.
