Uncomfortable in a restaurant? I don't get that at all.

Aren't you 20+ years younger than Jeff?

Do you really not understand that covid could kill Jeff, or disable him for life?

PS. My 47 year old nephew still can't do vigorous exercise as an after-effect of catching covid in March.

Actually, the reason was to flatten the curve so there would be enough room in the hospitals.

Actually, the reason was to flatten the curve so there would be enough room in the hospitals.

That's the way I remember it.

The problem with that approach is that the rate at which patients are leaving hospital confinement must exceed the rate at which they are being admitted. They have "flattened" the curve only to the point that the number of new cases is a constant percentage of the total cases.

Case in point, that percentage has bounced between 0.14% and 0.17% for about one month in New York State. That's the lowest in the country. However, the number of new daily cases has increased from the 500's to the 800's. The number of total cases has increased during this time. The base upon which the percentage is taken has increased, so the absolute number of daily cases has also increased.

The hospitals will eventually become overloaded. That time may be measured in months/years instead of weeks. However, the present strategy is only kicking the can down the road. The hope is that Covid will disappear or be cured before that happens or hospital facilities are increased.

How do you know?

If I inhale a lungful of cigarette smoke (which I have done outside maybe a dozen times in the last 6 months), why shouldn't there be enough covid germs in there to infect me?

Unless it's Sturgis or a Trump rally.

It's STILL speculative

The US does not do genomic sequencing of viruses found in Covid victims. This means there is no non-speculative evidence that two people caught the same virus strain.

We are relying on the speculation that if two or more people were in the same location and caught Covid that they caught it at their common location. That's the contact tracing technique that's been used for hundreds of years. The genomic sequencing removes any doubt. But it isn't being done in the US.
