Actually, the reason was to flatten the curve so there would be enough room in the hospitals.That's the way I remember it. The problem with that approach is that the rate at which patients are leaving hospital confinement must exceed the rate at which they are being admitted. They have "flattened" the curve only to the point that the number of new cases is a constant percentage of the total cases. Case in point, that percentage has bounced between 0.14% and 0.17% for about one month in New York State. That's the lowest in the country. However, the number of new daily cases has increased from the 500's to the 800's. The number of total cases has increased during this time. The base upon which the percentage is taken has increased, so the absolute number of daily cases has also increased. The hospitals will eventually become overloaded. That time may be measured in months/years instead of weeks. However, the present strategy is only kicking the can down the road. The hope is that Covid will disappear or be cured before that happens or hospital facilities are increased. |
